Public liability insurance is for businessmen and can be used as a protection in case of any legal disputes brought by client, customer or public.  For instance, when someone is injured while working on your business promise or is being involved in any of the business activities, he or she might claim for the cost of the medical expenses or transportation. Having the public liability insurance for carers will help you cover for this kind of expenses. That said, it must be understood that public liability will not cover up for any injury done to yourself or to the employees; it will not protect anyone if he or she is sued by the employee which comes under employer’s liability insurance and goes through legal rigmarole.

The care workers often rely on your own vehicle when they are going for their jobs. This is why is important that they have the right insurance that can help them deal with emergency if ever cropped up. The profession is mostly low paid which is why having the right cover for the type of driving becomes essential for the carers. You can get car insurance when you are committed to only one place of work. But whenever you have to visit your patients or clients in various places, you need to have business class insurance. There are three different levels of it –

Business class 1 (class A) – in this, pleasure, social, and domestic use of the car of the driver and the spouse will be covered. It will allow the person in question to drive between multiple fixed places of work. However most of these policies the vehicle will not be considered as a tool of trade which means you cannot carry the patients or use it for delivering any kind of goods or documents.

Business class 2 (class B 1) – this is a class to policy which includes business mileage for repeated drivers. Here, the insurers are often seen to have the insurance under the same name as that of the driver and the main policyholder. This means, the different drivers cannot use the car for different types of businesses but only be allowed for the main policyholder.

Type business class 3  (class B 2) – in this, the policyholder will be cover to visit as many number of places as they want and is not restricted for employment-related travel. However, carrying patient or relatives under this is not covered.

Cost of public liability insurance

For the small to medium sized business owners, they might pay about $17 on average per month for the public liability insurance. This is one of the most popular types and is crucial for the trades and service industries.

The following three factors decides what will be the cost of the insurance starting with –

· Business turnover and size
· The type and nature of the business
· Amount of insurance cover your business might require

The location of the business will also determine what should be the cost of public liability policy.

Can an individual get public liability insurance?

As an individual, you are not legally mandated to have any public liability insurance. If you are a business owner, you can get yourself one in case someone else sues your business, or in case of any form of bankruptcy. It is not that business with physical space will need the insurance but public liability insurance is also useful when you are a consultant or likewise. For instance, if a customer visiting you gets hurt can still bring you to court and this insurance can save you.
